Description
Porcelain china was intensively traded throughout most of the Modern Age. There were two commercial routes through which these products reached the Iberian peninsula: one known as the “Manila Galleon”, which brought products from the Philippines to Mexico and from there to Spain. The second route was via Portuguese merchants established at the port of Macao from 1557. Porcelain china, particularly the blue-on-white type, would greatly influence European pottery centres. This cup has been determined by the stamp on the base reading “DA MING NIAN ZOU” (made in the great Ming Dynasty), which corresponds to the later period of that imperial dynasty.
