Description
Storage jar with ring-shaped base, very marked and high carination and thinner neck finished off by a triangular edge. The gold decoration shows a band covering the whole body with a thick-lined grid motif. There is a zigzag or wolf teeth motif on the shoulder, below the ridge. It ends on the neck with three horizontal bands. The geometrism demonstrates the decoration’s relation to low-price products that were made in blue cobalt and seem to be derived from the Pula group, characterised by radial and geometric compositions. It was marketed between the second third of the 14th century and early 15th century. In any case, it must have been made before the second half of the 15th century. This type of storage vessel was commonly used as a pharmacy jar, but it could also have been used for other purposes. They appear as vases in some 15th century paintings.
